FotoFilmic is a Vancouver-based independent non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the practice of emerging and mid-career photographers around the world still working on film through international juried traveling exhibitions, print and online publications as well as professional workshops. FotoFilmic mandate consists in stimulating sociocritical dialogues all around the world on the place, role and future of material practices in contemporary photography while providing intercultural audiences with greater exposure and appreciation for them.

Since 2012, FotoFilmic has presented over 150 emerging and mid-career photographic artists from 29 countries in New York, NY (Sous Les Étoiles Gallery), Los Angeles, CA (dnj Gallery, Santa Monica), Seoul, South Korea (Space 22, Gangnam District), Boise, ID (Visual Arts Center, Boise State University), Vancouver, BC (Burrard Arts Foundation) and Melbourne (Monash Gallery of Art, Oct-Nov 2017), with the 5th edition FOTOFILMIC17 set to open next fall in Paris, France (Galerie Binome, Sept. 2018) and Thessaloniki, Greece (Stereosis, Oct. 2018).

To create these unique group exhibitions, FotoFilmic has collaborated with dozens of distinguished jurors including Alec Soth, Mark Steimetz, Todd Hido, Raymond Meeks, Karen McQuaid (The Photographer’s Gallery), Ann-Christin Bertrand (C/O Berlin) and Heather Snider (SF Camerawork), to name just a recent few.

FOTOFILMIC17 is FotoFilmic’s 5th International Juried Traveling Exhibition edition, presenting 30 new emerging and mid-career photographers in representation of an inclusive and insightful worldview of the thriving return to the film medium, as well as of a diverse set of material and historical practices witnessed in recent year in the field of contemporary photography. The exhibition follows the footsteps of earlier FotoFilmic editions in accompanying the dynamic framing of today’s artistic and societal interpretations of film-based and analogue photographic culture and its legacy into the digital age. All pieces are presented as 11″ x 14″ Gallery Archival Giclée prints custom matted and enclosed in black wood 17″ x 21″ frames.
