Our Mission
Burrard Arts Foundation (BAF) is located on the unceded Territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations, also known as Vancouver. BAF is guided by a vision for Vancouver to grow and thrive with the creative sector at its core. It is our mission to amplify creative culture in pursuit of collective inspiration. We aim to nurture accessibility and engagement with creative practices, aspiring towards more culturally connected communities.
All of BAF’s projects and programming are designed to connect with the broadest possible cross-section of the Vancouver community, prioritizing low-barrier, inclusive modes of arts presentation, with a keen focus on subject matter that sparks conversations related to urbanism, social justice and cultural identity.
BAF’s gallery, exhibitions and programming are welcoming and accessible to all.
Our physical space at 258 East 1st Avenue in Vancouver consists of production and exhibition spaces, and is designed around a central pillar of BAF’s activities; supporting the work of emerging creative practitioners. In our on-site studios we host six residencies per year, each culminating in a gallery exhibition that showcases the body of work produced by artists during their time with us.
Public art is another important way we accomplish our mission; past projects have included murals, sculpture, and large-scale installations involving both traditional and new media.
Burrard Arts Foundation is a nonprofit organization and a registered Canadian charity. We are grateful to our primary benefactors the Chan Family Foundation and Burrard Properties.
